My coop build

Very nice, great job. Very satisfying isn't it?

This is exactly what I was thinking.

With your skills I bet you can mount one underneath, use a hing and some sort of latch to lock it up when closed!

Good ...no, strike that...............GREAT job!

Sweet Coop!

As I suggested to another party, if you need more seasonal ventilation: with a 2 - 3 inch holesaw, drill holes high on the walls, keep the cutouts, screen one side of the holes, then when it gets cold simply put the plugs back in place until it gets hot again. You can even tether them using the pilot hole and a piece of cord.

I'm thinking about changing the lids to the run to gain some height. If I raise the center bar that they mount to and make the doors L shaped I can still straddle the sides to get in, they can still lay on top of each other and they can still be tied to each other to have both open. I figure I can get another 2 - 2 1/2 feet of height. The little guys already bounce off the top now and they're barely 6 weeks old. I'll post pics if and when I do.

My original idea was a 6'6" run with a normal door but I have 4 dogs with a varying degree of wanting a fresh chicken dinner so I was worried they'd either push the door in or if it opened outward they'd twist it to get in or at least get their head in. So I didn't want any openings at ground level.

The only other issue with changing the lids is it will limit how far I can open that side window but it's kinda limited already because I can only have it open so far and still open the lids of the run.

The run's about 34" tall right now.

Also, thanks for all the compliments.

Thanks - they're free to all here to uses as is or modify to fit their needs... If anybody has any questions feel free to ask.

Made it. 1x2 finished pine, miter cut and 3/8's square dowel. I notched the 1x2 and miter cut the ends so it fits in then notched the center a bit where it crosses. It was the prototype so I can do better in the future but it looks and works great. When I attach the plexi-glass from the back it will keep everything locked into place.

I'll take some closeup pictures.

Ohhh I like this. It was always my plan to add ventilation to the top of the coop. I left the eaves open but without a ridge vent and a black roof (left overs) I was worried about the heat stacking up inside. I was going to use a spade bit but now I'm going to whole saw them. Thanks for the tip.

I was thinking doing a swing and roll out egg box do to the limit space, but got busy with other project.
