My Coop Project (Pic Heavy)

WOW! Love the coop. Simple, functional, clean lines, and pretty too. I really like the nice shady setting too. Did I miss how you were planning to bed/clean it? I was just curious if you're planning to go with deep litter. I'm considering it in my coop.

Wow, folks.

Regarding discussion of disposal of the cat as chicken predator here, the rules of the Predators & Pests section do apply across this board, so here are those rules for some of you on this particular thread. Read them, now:

Quote:
This was a thread about the construction of a very nice coop in a fenced yard and became yet another flaming critique of a member's decision to let his chickens roam within that fence on his own property while still attempting to protect them from domestic predators who were not on theirs.

ETA:

We are going to reopen this thread after spending quite some time cleaning up the mess. Rather than respond to flaming comments with flames of your own, please hit the red flag button on the lower left of the offending post and let us deal with it.

This is the COOPS section, so if you want to have a very involved discussion of trapping predators, a better place would be Predators & Pests, however, the rules of that section are enforced and some folks probably would be better off not even going in there.

Carry on with the pictures and discussion of your coop build.

Woo. Drama! Anyway. Can we get a pic of your entire yard? I'm incredibly interested. I'd like to see what kind of plants you have growing. I'd love to see the coop and the house in the same pic as well since you color matched them. I guess I'm just nosey. :p

No problem! I will do that when I get home from work and post.

You sure can. Right now I have a loop of the 'underground fence' circling my coop to keep my dogs at least 3' away. As soon as I get the run up, I'm putting 2 lines of electric fence wire (one about 1'high & the other about 1' from the top) to keep any other critters from getting too close.

We have an hardwired electric fence around our pond. iIts barely noticeable and provides great security for very little money compared to fencing. We also have a home made portable/rechargeable set up that uses a car battery that we move around the property as needed. HD is trying to figure out a solar set up to replace it.
