My Coop - still under construction (pic heavy)

Many thanks for posting all the detailed pictures. They've inspired some ideas I have for the new coop I have to build.

Also, your workmanship is superb. Well done

***Update***
I did some more work on the run today and I think I may be nearing completion (didn' t think I would be saying that anytime soon). Here are some of the latest pictures:

Here is a picture of the exterior of the nesting box area. I added a couple of hooks on the bottom for baskets. I also have a locking latch on each end to keep any smart predators out!

The back side of the coop.

I buried the chicken wire about 10-12 inches down and lined both the outside and inside with rock to help to deter any unwanted guests.

Run construction begins!

More run progress.

This is where I left off today. I added a 4 x 4 post to one end of the run for a daytime roosting area - now need to construct a chicken ladder.

The run roof. I hope to get to Lowe's on Monday for some corrugated roofing to cover 75% of the run. I will keep the end above the roost open. The corrugated material that I am planning on getting allows the light to pass through but will keep it nice and dry underneath.

That's all for now. Weather forecast says rain for today so I am not sure how much I will get done but more updates will follow. Thanks for stopping by.

As a reminder, for a complete list of pictures for the entire project, go to my web site at
http://www.capecodpiper.com
Click on links, scroll towards the bottom of the page. Look for a chicken coop and a picture of 2 chicks. Chicken coop has a ton of pictures of the entire construction process and the chick pictures brings you to a few photos of my girls!

***Update 5/17***
I lost another pint of blood yesterday putting the chicken wire on the run door but got it done. The interior of the coop got the final bats of insulation (itchy, itchy) and I started to cover it with some thin plywood. Off to Lowes today to get some corrugated roofing. Hopefully when I return the rain will be over and I can continue working!
Updated pics coming soon!

***Update 6/12***
I added a few additional features to the coop and run today. I put some 1/2" hardware cloth around the space under the coop. I have seen some tracks around the coop so I wanted the added protection - they little girls hang out under there a lot so I thought it best to start there. I will do the remainder of the run, at least the bottom 2' for now, as soon as my local feed store gets my hardware cloth in.
I also added a hand sanitizer station which has already gotten plenty of use. With 4 kids in and out of the run all day, I will go through many a bottle of hand sanitizer!!! Pictures to follow!

WOW Lunkerchicken Noce coop and I loved all the pictures...! Great ideas there.

One question I have that did not seem clear from the pictures is did you seal off the small spaces formed between the roof 2x4 and the top of the coop? If show how did you do that?

Thanks for posting!

Hi Nancy,
Thank you for your nice comments! I did seal that area using silicone. It has worked well so far. There was one area that had a large gap between the 2 x 4's and the side of the coop. I used a small piece of flashing there before I siliconed that area as well. Thanks again.

***Update 6/14***
Still adding things, I am out of control. I found some paw prints near the coop and I'm not sure if they are coyote or what so I am installing a motion detector flood light to light up the coop/run should anything approach. I also have a 2 view coop/run cam in progress. I have the conduit and wire run to the location. Now I just have to buy some cameras without my wife killing me for spending more money on this project!!! Updates to follow should I make it out alive......

***Update 6/25***
Well, with the addition of our beautiful Giant/Polish mix, I had to add on to the run for both quarantine space and eventually more run space for all when they learn to play well together! Here is the beginning of the addition!
