My Cornish X Pics

9 left for tomorrow. I haven't weighted any lately but they are big. I haven't lost any in the heat either - just amazing. I cooked one of the free range chickens and I can't say it tasted great but it wasn't bad by any means. I did over cook it so that might have been my problem. :D

I'm going to miss those great big crows in the morning :hit but my Barred Rocks are starting to crow. I hope they make it another month without fighting.

I love all your pictures they are great. Was this your first go at cx? I just ordered my first batch of 25 and Im excited to raise them but nervous for processing day. We also have 2BBWs that are going to need processing very shortly after the cx. I know it has to be done but it pulls at my heart a little. Any tips to get through it. So did you not care much for the free ranged ones? I thought Ive read lots of people put them in tractors. I thought maybe it inhances the taste. We are planning on building a tractor. Though the only yard I have available right now is my front yard . Im not quite sure what neighbors and passerbyers are going to think

How long does it take from chick to butcher size for a cornis x? Only raised dual purpose birds so far, but may order a few for the freezer if it doesn't take long...thanks

CX chickens take 6-8 weeks to get to butcher size. I processed my 26 CX at 7 weeks old and they were all a fairly large size. I will be ordering them again this spring/summer.

Here is a link to my thread on raising my CX if you want to take a look

thanks to both for attaching the thread to look up. I can not let them free range the yard due to neighbors and dogs, seeing your tractor gave me an idea of something i can renovate into a tractor with four wheels so the wife and kids can pull around my 2 acres using the 4wheeler. Have more than plenty of hardware cloth, 2x4 wire and lumber already stored up. I do have a fairly big chicken yard, but my heritage BR rooster and guineas would probably kill them. If i ordered 25, about how much 20% protien feed would they need in a week? Is it actually more cost effective, raising my own to butcher for the freezer or just buy in the store? The butchering process is no problem at all, we butcher all our own livestock. Should I order 50, keep 25 in a homemade tractor and let 25 run with my egg layers when they are about 3wks old, I guessing they would be big enough to handle the guineas?
