My crazy bantam cochin

So we are new to bantams and our little cochin, Chewbacca (gotta love kids and their naming skills) only wants to sleep in our hands. Are they normally this friendly?! I'm not knocking it but it's different after years of raising regular chickens.

That is the cutest pic ever!!!! I have a couple bantam cochins and my one Mickey folows me everwhere and thinks Im mom!!! She even gets bent out of shape if I dont pick her up immediately when doing chores and will fly up on me if I dont. I am getting some LF Cochins in a month and am hoping they are as friendly!!!

It really is the sweetest bird ever! She seems to make little chirping noises, quite different then the normal peeping ones whenever someone picks her up. I'm tempted to go get more of these little birds. ♡

If I was to start over and wanted chickens for just pets-it would probably be all banty cochins. However, I have a mixed flock of bantys and LF and I feel bad as my lil cochins are forever being chased. THey aren't hurt but sure get their exercise. It would probably help if they didnt squak the minute anyone came iwthin 3 feet of them too LOL I am afraid I will probably cave and add a couple more bantys anyhow. I have considered setting up a seperate coop/run for just bantys.

Our family favorite is a bantam mottled cochin hen. She's the one we always bring to my daughter's 4-H events as she just accepts everything and doesn't mind being petted and held for hours on end. I just ordered a couple white bantam cochins- hoping they have the same temperment. That picture is precious!

Cochin Bantie & Full-size Hen Intro trouble!!
help!! I am new to BY chicken raising and I think the hubby & I just made a big mistake. Friday we bought 4 pullet cochin banties. 1 seems to be close to egg laying age, but the other 3 are definitely pullets. Yesterday, the hubby bought 2 hens that are about a 1 1/2 years old each. We introduced them last night. No problems noticed no fighting or pecking. But today, the banties won't cone out of the sleeping area. I am in the suburbs and am required to have a chicken tractor, as opposed to a regular coop & run. My coop is 12.5 sqft of run plus the sleeping/nest area is on the "2nd floor".
The new hens are a buff orpington & a speckled sussex. Both were pecked by the top hen at their old flock, & missing some feathers- due to the prior hen. They do seem sweet tho. The BO isn't eager for handling, but doesn't peck. The SS will let people handle her w/o any problems.

How long should I wait to take action? I am worried that the full-size hens have bullied the young cochins to staying in the nest/sleep area. The cochins haven't had much, if any, water or food yet today. no grass or any treats either.
The cochins are named and loved already. We have held and loved them all. Even the hubby pulled out camping chairs yesterday and hung out with the banties (making sure to hold each one) before the hens arrived. It's killing me to see them not out of the nest/sleeping area.

Ha! I know exactly how you feel. I bred Serama and Silkies for years. Always loved the temperment of the silkies even over the serama, but they always seemed just apathetic.
I picked up some frizzled cochin bantam eggs on ebay and OMG I am in love with these little boogers! They were bought just to be something fun for the backyard (pets, of course, not just ornaments ) and they are exceedingly friendly...the come running to me as soon as they see me, and one hen will try and jump into my arms! They were fun little chicks, too...The one that jumps in my hand now literally "popped" out of her egg like a Jack-in-the-box and I just happened to be standing there when it happened....we just stared at eachother like "what in the heck just happened?!"

Anyway, I can say that of my half dozen or so bantam cochins, all have different personalities but all are very gentle, sweet, and look for affection from humans.

They really are quite adorable. Our daughter, who all the chickens fear because she is so loud lol, loves this chick. It just wants to curl up on her shoulder or lap and hang out. It is the cutest thing.
