My dad thinks I am in way over my head! :/

Wow! This lightened up the weight of my father's opinion off my shoulders!

If you love your birds, its not work, its fun. Its what you want to do, enjoy it!

Oh for Heaven's sake, I have somebody in my family like that too, always raining on everyone's parade! It's not as though you've brought several elephants into your back yard! No, your not in over your head. I've had many different kinds of animals over the years and chickens are one of the easiest in my opinion. Yes they require a little more care and attention when they are chicks and in their brooder box but once they move out they are fine with a morning and evening check, their care and feeding is pretty basic. Though I think most of us are out there a little more often just because we enjoy them so much! Just enjoy them and have fun proving him very wrong!

BBQ, That's excellent that the couple who you got your chicks from will build you a chicken tractor for $100. Sounds like a good deal. I'm glad you have them to encourage you also.

We'll encourage you here, too! It is so fun to see how you take care of your chicks--I've been loving your other posts, too. I'm a slow typist, so I read more than I comment on. But I enjoy your threads! LOL!! Good luck to you!

If you are above the age of 6 or 7, this should be pretty easy for you. Dad doesn't instill much confidence in you, does he? Raising chickens is very easy and just requires that one take the responsibility of feeding, watering and cleaning coops. Not rocket science and a small child can handle the responsibility. Read some basic poultry care books, don't worry about the small stuff, be prepared to kill a suffering bird and just let the chickens do the rest. God designed chickens to be very good at being chickens!

Don't ever let anyone tell you what you are, or are not, capable of in this life, sweety! You can do anything you put your mind to.

Very positive support here, I feel like I can do this ;D
It makes me want to raise chickens for a living later on, but I have other dreams. I feel like I wouldn't make enough. ;p

I think chickens are one of the easiest animals to care for.
The initial set-up is what will take the most work. After that it's just general feeding and watering with cleaning out once in a while.
The care is continous though - I think that's where some people get into trouble with any animal when the novelty wears off and the daily care gets boring. But if you are willing to do it it's really not hard at all.
$100 tractor sounds like a steal.

They're about as much work as a cat I guess. Feed/water/some cleanup. They don't require training, walking, games of fetch, etc.
And when you have multiple chickens it doesn't really increase the workload THAT much.

If you like chickens, it's not work at all!!!!!

As long as anyone actually puts in the effort and asks the questions before things are at a critical point, anyone can raise chickens and a whole lot more.

Do your research, put in the effort and the rest will happen.

Time to prove dad wrong (it sounds like the OM has issued a challenge to me), right?

i got 2 chicken tractors at $35 each one is a 4x8 the other 4x12. (theya re really nice)

i cant lift them... but that is what boyfriends are for right?
