Our Mixed Flock Journey!

I like the quick kill method. I don't like any animal suffering,, even a rat.
I ran thru all the different ideas out there. One used Plaster of Paris instead of baking soda.
To me that is suffering. And other rats see it,, and will not touch that food. They are smarter than we think.

I'd like to kill them as quickly as possible too. I just have no idea how many there are. The one I saw was pretty good sized. That method will be a last resort.

Some fall color around our yard!

Sadly we will be taking this Sweet Gum down. The roots are lifting the sidewalk near the house. It's such a pretty tree.

This is what we did today and so glad to have the stumps removed.
We were able to borrow our friends, (son's boss) telehandler. So we can finally move all of the remaining tree stumps hubs cut down, into our burn pit. He will then put the remaining logs on top of that. I'm not sure if he's planning to burn this winter or let them dry out more and burn next year. I think we have 11 more to do today. We also have 2 pine trees to take down. They are leaning towards our deck. And we don't want them to take out any trees in our yard. The winds we get can be hard on trees.

You can see how it's leaning into the tree. The 2nd tree is smaller and behind it. Our Peacock loved perching in this tree. He would launch from the deck and land on his preferred branch. Miss that beautiful boy.

Here's a better angle, that shows how much those trees are leaning.

Thank you Debby!

We've had to remove a few beautiful trees over the years. Mostly to disease.

Super helpful to have that use of that equipment. Those leaning trees are definitely in the right position to cause some trouble.

Yeah, our biggest concern, are the trees in front of them. Dale shot to the tops with his range finder (being a golfer comes in handy, lol), the deck is just out of reach, we hope! He's going to put a platform on the tines and have our son lift him, so he can cut off the branches. He has a safety harness. I'd operate the telehandler, but our son is more familiar with it. It's a little squirrely.

I know you know this already, but everyone needs to be super careful! Let us know how it works out.

I wouldn't let him get up there without his safety harness. Still, he makes me a little nervous, but he doesn't take any unnecessary risks. After he cuts the branches, he said he's going to cut the roots behind the tree and let gravity topple it. That should pull up the whole root ball. I'll be glad when the last tree is down. It's been a lot of hard work for him.
I'll probably take pictures and video.
