Good luck with the Dachshund, I don't think you will ever change his desire to get to the birds. Many of the cute lap dogs that we have in the States were and still are used for hunting in Europe. Dachshund translates from German to Badger dog. They were originally bred and are still used today in Germany to hunt, along with the Jack Russel which I have used to hunt wild boar (no I am not kidding). Definitely not a little lap dog over here, they would rather be latched onto a wild boar than sitting in your lap.
