My daughter accidently unplugged my bator!!! Need info please.

Hi, how long can the temp be down before it kills the embryo? This is my first batch of eggs that I have tried to hatch. I think it was unplugged between 1 and 2 hours. I left for work at 11am and it was plugged in. At about 2:15-2:30 my husband called me to tell me it was unplugged. So I know it was less than 3 hours. I think that the temp had got down in the 70's. So can I assume I will have none hatch. I know I had at least 6 last night that were as lively as could be when iIcandled them. This is day 9 of my incubation. Thanks for any info you might have.

I have never done any incubation before....
but I was reading of a person whose power was off for 6 hours and she still had some hatch. Don't give up!
Someone else with a ton of knowledge will chime in here.

I wouldn't give up on them. I opened my incubator everyday for about 15 minutes. (I read this in an FFA book) One night I opened it and fell asleep and it was open for about 2 to 3 hours and I had a good hatch rate.

I think they should be ok. Just get them warmed back up, and after about another week, candle them again. Keep us posted!!

I agree with justusnak- I think they should be fine. Just leave them be for a few days and then candle them. Let us know what happens.

They will be fine, there is still a lot of white to hold in the heat. I would let them go a couple days and then candle. If anything it might take a day longer at the end for them to hatch. Stay positive, I have done that and many more things and still had the little buggers hatch. Jenn

Hi!
I completely understand your concern. I've had the incubation process interrupted by 14 hr power outtages and still had reasonably good hatches.
Honestly, I think it depends on the situation.
If conditions were close to ideal (especially in the early stages of incubation) before the power was out (perfect temp and humidity), they seem to fare better .

O.k. I just was too anxious. I checked two late last night and one was wiggly and jiggly and alive and the other I really couldn't tell much due to the egg being darker. I just checked what I think was the same two and one is still moving in there and I still couldn't tell much about the other. So I have some hope left. Thanks for all those who have responded. I reallllly appriciate it.

I've incubated eggs for two days, left them out on the counter over night, put them back in, and had a good portion of them hatch. I've even moved eggs on multiple occasions from one city to the next, about 1 hr out of the bator, and had all but two hatch out of a few dozen total. I don't think the eggs wont even be fazed by three hours.

Thanks so much silkiechicken,I will be amazed and completely happy if 6 out of 20 hatch. I ordered these from Northern OH and I live in Southern KY. 5 were broked due to rough handling during shipping.
Then this. These are assorted feather legged from Meyer Hatchery, so I don't even know what I may get. I hope if i have any at all hatch, one is a blue silkie. I have a white silkie hen on a nest of 10 of her own eggs 2 mixed eggs and one plastic egg. And just by chance she started setting the same day i put my eggs in the bator. I tell my husband I'd love to see that plastic egg hatch,lol. I have another silkie hen but she has not laid one egg in the 6 weeks we have had her. And she seems of laying age. I am not sure what is up with that. But thanks again for the support. This is my first experience with this web site and I am glad I came here.
