My Diet & Exercise Thread

Quote:
Come on along! I know what you mean about food allergies!! There are more foods I can't eat than the ones I can!! I learned to love eggplant when I was on Adkins. A month later I couldn't touch the things without my hands swelling. Mangos, kiwi, nuts, are just a few of the things I have problems with.

We just need to stick together and support each other.

My doc wants me to eat healthier by following a combination of these 2 plans. The Syndrome X is from the same doc that wrote the Low Carb for Dummies book. This is a really good diet, er, way of eating if you are pre-diabetic/insulin resistant. The other is actually in the book by another doc that had cancer and his research shows that certain foods help with prevention of growth of cancer cells. His book is called Anticancer-a new way of living. Both are pretty good books. Dr.Chaunecy at Texas Tech will answer emails if you have questions for her.

good luck i know you can do it, try to find a diet buddy who will do it with you, that always helps, i lost 35 pounds over the summer but i only ate six ounces of pure protien a day and did two hours of cardio a day, i know it was unhealthy but i am inpatient and wasnt satisfied losing just a few pounds a week

but good luck to you

Here are some foods that really help me with the South Beach diet:

Deserts that are great anytime for any no-carb dieter are sugar-free jello (10 calories 0 carbs) and sugar-free LifeSavers (5 flavors = 7 calories 1 gr carbs) (wintOGreen = 9 calories 1 gr carbs) Those work great when you crave something sweet.

Most diet drinks have no carbs and 0 calories.

For BREAD, you can't beat MissPrissy's:

Flax seed Bread – Low Carb

by MissPrissy BYC
I found a great bread recipe. Yes, it is a low carb bread but this one is so good who cares? It is composed of milled flax seed. It is high in omega 3’s and 6’s. It is also a good dietary source of plant estrogens. This is an all around good for your body bread. Especially if you love seedy, whole grain breads. I love the texture of this bread in my mouth. Also? I love that is it under 1g carb per slice. I can have a sandwich for under 2g carbs. You cannot beat that in any commercial bread product being offered at the grocery.
Basic Recipe:
* 2 cups milled flax seed (buy at health food stores)
* 1 tablespoon baking powder
* 1 teaspoon salt
* 1-2 Tablespoons artificial sweetener
* 5 beaten eggs
* 1/2 cup water
* 1/3 cup vegetable oil
Beat eggs well. Add other wet ingredients to the eggs. Beat well. Combine dry ingredients. Mix with wet ingredients. Allow to sit for about 5 minutes so the flax can begin to absorb the liquids.
Using a baking sheet and a silpat, spray the edges the of the pan with a cooking spray so the side don’t stick.

I weigh about 120, and my highest weight was almost 200. For me it was simply about changing habits. Depends what yours are. Biggest thing for me was cutting out high caloric snacks after supper, along with lower fat foods, but that really does not matter; it is different for everyone.

I have never done anything that could be called decent exercise in my life, never been to a gym, never jogged, etc. But I did take up gardening. I kill most plants, but it was good exercise, and sometimes I actually got some decent veggies out of the garden....

You aren't going to change who you are, but you can change some choices. You can also change your focus, in time, or at least, find that it has changed, and I actually think this is the key. Weight control is not something that I have to work on any more.

It is not about deprivation or diet or exercise, it is about mental change, change of attitude. You'd rather be thinner and healthier, so let your body follow this preference. It knows what needs changing.

Good luck Boyd! And thanks for dragging all of us into this time of temporary misery with you. My dad recommends what he calls "half-rations". You'll be hungry at times and you can have a quick nibble of something healthy to keep your blood sugar from lowering, but you will discover how little food your body really needs. My DH is your height too and he weighs around 225 I think.

Ok, well sorry for the late start today, had a couple computer jobs early on this morning.

Since I didn't get a chance to weigh myself before I left I did when I got home.

225.1 not 215
