X2 Wolftracks... I was going to suggest, OP.. that you look up your local breed specific rescue organizations for the two breeds... so the JRT rescue group and the Collie rescue group... and ask them who they would recommend for the breeds. Hopefully you can work with someone who has extensive experience with both.
I did not have sucess when I tried one of those
Petsmart classes years ago, not enough personal attention, not enough experience... you need a trainer who knows JRTs and knows BCs, has experience with them... as mentioned by others, the positive reinforcement training is what you should look out for with most dogs... and especially with the JRTs, they need postitive positive positive training.
When I was a teen we stayed with a lady who did JRT rescue. That was a crazy house! Our 4 jacks (3 females!) plus her 10 foster jacks... anyway, she was a trainer by day, and the only way she trained was with positive methods. Clicker training! The breed is independent enough and smart enough (part of the reason we admire them so) that you have to make them *want* to listen to you, cause you just won't get anywhere with domination.
As we were shown and have experienced, the best way to establish yourself as alpha with them is more of a headgame method. You eat first, you go through doors first, you get the best spots in the house (like the couch), everything that is good comes from you (including dinner, one kibble from your hand at a time)... well those are some of the methods we have found to work that you should probably look for in the trainer you find.
If not that, you could find a Flyball meet up in your area and attend that and ask around for suggested trainers. The Border Jack was specifically bred for Flyball! They had alot of Border collies and alot of JRTs excelling at the sport, so I suppose someone had the idea to combine the two
Who knows... You might even decide to try flyball or agility out with yours!
