My dog is in labor...

Awww! If she is hyper, be careful that she doesn't accidentally crush a pup!

Congrats on a nice litter.

For now I would get rid of the newspaper and put in washable blankets. You can get stuff at thrift stores for very little like comforters, quilts, blankets, etc. The need to be big enough that you can set your pig rail feet on them to hold them.

Newspaper is very slippery and not a good surface for new borns.

At 21 days, I make a potty area of newspaper, using the Misty Method. http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/breedingdogs/pottytrainingpuppies3weeks.htm

Good luck with your litter.

They are so cute!

My cat just gave birth. Her kittens are around 4 days old, now.
Congrats on your new babies.

Thanks again to all.

LaynaDon - good luck with your litter.

I already got rid of the newspaper - Mommy doesn't like it. I also got rid of the pig rails which Mommy tore out of the box -she didn't like those either.I'm hoping that once she settles down, we can replace the rails and put in the quilted pads I bought to go in the bottom of the box.

Tears!!!! - we lost the smallest pup this morning. I had to start tube feeding her, she didn't want to nurse. I was giving her subQ fluids and keeping her warm, but she started crying and not passing urine or stool. I hate when this happens! Mommy must have known something I didn't, as she kept trying to remove the puppy from the box on Wednesday.

Sorry you lost one....congrats on the litter. They are sure cute. I hope you post pics as they get older. :) I am expecting a litter of saints the end of May. I am excited but worried too. I hope everything goes well.

One thing I might recommend is different size PVC for the rails. I use LARGE PVC so that it is not flexible. What you have set up there would not work for me at all.

You can see in these photos the rails I use. This is heavy enough to stay put, and it fits tightly inside my box. My whelping box set up is a little over the top, but maybe you will forgive it, and hope you can see the pig rails. They fit right up against the walls of the box, and they are about 5" from the floor at the bottom.

So very sorry you lost a puppy, that is very painful every time.

So sorry you lost a pup. I cry so hard when I lose a pup that I get a killer headache for days.

I do a ton of work with Boxer Rescue and whelped a litter last October for them. Lost two pups that went down hill like you've explained. Vet believes it was an intussusception. The more I work with Boxers the more I hear of it happening, even in older pups.

Thanks again to all.
