I have a dog at my feet right now that will bite. Mostly he does this out of fear and sneaks up behind the person, nips the back of the leg and runs away. I have spent alot of time working w/him and easing his fear. If he is uncomfortable with a person in my home (invited person/friend) he will go lay on his bed. (better than pacing back & forth and trying to sit in my lap). When they get up to leave, he comes to my side.
Just because a dog growls or bites does not make that dog viscious and should be put down. There is a huge difference between a viscious dog and my Freddie. I would not own a viscious dog. I do however have a protector and a very good judge of character. He has scared a few people off when he puts his feet in the window to see who is in the drive and barks loudly.
If they only knew how much of a scardy cat he really is. A repairman came in and I couldnt get off work. (a well known guy) I told him about Freddie. He walks in, Freddie is at the top of the steps acting very mean. He commands him to 'go lay down'. Freddie did.
Read up on Cesar Milan and take the committment to train this unwanted behaviour out of your dog, it can be done.
