My dog was dog-napped --almost

I am glad I have my Abbey girl home safe and sound - since vet said Abbey will always be alittle on the small side she will always be a target.
I have been to wal-mart and got Abbey a crate to sleep in while we are not home and at night - she loves going in the crate so thats not a big deal, I had to pull money that was being saved for something else but oh well she needs it.
I checked her over and the only boo-boo she has is a nasty looking cut on the inside of her thigh so I have cleaned it and will keep a watch on it to prevent it getting infected. I have also gone to Lowes and priced the wooden fence - it will cost a pretty penny but oh well my babies are worth it- might mean I have to put off getting new chicks this spring.
There are ALOT of people who breed pitbulls around me - something I did not until after we moved here ( had I known I might not have moved here )
I have talked to the neighbors and one of them gave me a name of a young guy who matches what I saw - called police and they came out to take a report - first time I called them I was told there was nothing they could about it since the dog came home on her own.
Abbey is possibly due to have puppies in late dec/jan and we were told that this person might try and buy one of her puppies -- to bad for him I am very very picky who takes one of my girls puppies.
Abbey will never be outside unless I or my DH are home.
Police said that my other boxers are not a target since they are full grown and they are barkers and act like they will bite - even though they never will but we dont let people know that.
thanks for letting me vent alittle about how my morning is going.
Believe me - we will keep a close eye on her from now on !!
and we are getting that fence and hotwire even if it means no new chicks for me for awhile

I don't know about that, you've got a friend who'd be happy to give you some chicks in the spring

hmm wonder who that might be LOL

how is the new puppy cara?
DH might be able to take a day off during the week to bring your girls half way to you -whenever you are ready for them - they are really getting big and very pretty the brahmas have the most lovely feather legs.
They have been eating cat food, oatmeal, pumpkins,
they will tear you up for oatmeal- they love it

Thats horrible, I would hate to have to watch my pets like that. Id move away from that area, since its going to be an ongoing thing.
I dont feel that microchipping will help her if she would only be used for fighting training.Heaven forbid.
Please protect her at all costs.
These people are ruthless and they are known in Aust to send NICE looking people around to buy pups on their behalf so please be careful.
If you see him again, try to follow him to see where he lives, in case.
I do hope he never comes back.
He knows she is there so do something Now.
Dear little girl, she is so sweet.
I would also put a notice in your local paper warning of dognappers in your area, hopefully that will help others avoid heartbreak.

I agreed --tell the local paper, news and get out flyers. You will save someone else a lot of heartache and at least protect the dogs in you area.

I hate that this has happened it has thrown my whole day off - now if we want to go somewhere we have to call her in put her in her crate - cant stay out long because I dont want her to have to wait forever to go potty, with every little bark I am running to the window to make sure all is well -- I like to take a shower in the afternoons ( DH and I fight over hotwater LOL ) now in order to take a shower I have to lock her up - this is just crazy !!
I am glad she is home because I do realize there are tons of dogs that get out or stolen and never come home again I have 4 dogs and I love them all dearly and I would have never stopped looking for her if he manged to get her to follow him, I am really shocked she came home on her own - since she is still a young dog with alot of puppy in her.
we are doing everything we can to protect her and my other dogs.

I would recomend getting the micro-chip that way (god forbid) if your dog is actually stollen you have proof she is yours. I came home one cay and found the kennel door lock cut (there was a doggy door leading from the run directly into the dogs bedroom) and my dog gone. I found her the next day chained up about 2 miles away. I went into the yard to grab her and the peoples neigbor called the cops. I informed the cops what happened and they had animal control come out to scan her and contact Home Again. ( I had reported my dog stollen to home again)
I would also recomend going to the vet to get the chip done. My vet has preliminary reports that the do it yourself chips MAY be causing cancer.
The only other thing you can do is put up a camera and a notice on the property that there is a security camera.

I will be contacting our vet today to check into the micro-chip and see how much it will be for all my dogs.

After talking to some neighbors last night and telling them what happen and telling them what this person looked like I was given a name of a kid who lives a few house's down form me - so after calling the police for a third time I put my big " scary " looking male boxer on a leash and took him for a walk- I found the house and sure enough that kid was outside - so without even thinking we ( my dog & me ) marched up to the door and asked to speak with an adult- told them what had happened - kid was questioned why he tried it, " I wanted to breed her to my pitbull" was the answear i got. told kid if he EVER comes near me house or my animals again I DONT CARE how old he is or what the reason is he will be thrown in jail.
My very " mean " boxer and me calmly walked home, the whole time my insides felt like a bowl of jello I was so mad I could scream.

the things we are going to do to insure safty for all our animals :

1- run hotwire around chicken yard
2- build a wooden fence ( as high as possible)
3- run hotwire around wooden fence
4- call vet about chipping dogs
5- post no trespassing ( sp ) signs
6- keep bringing Abbey in house when we are not home and at night
7-post beware of dogs signs ( my male has a huge loud bark - makes him sound very mean ) with a wooden fence and all that barking hopefully it will sound like we have a very aggressive dog.
8-take updated pictures of all animals and keep in a photo album to have proof of our animals.

cant think of anything else i need to do other than that--
if anyone has any other ideas please let me know.

Oh - You must be British! A friend in college used to use that phrase - "toe rag". I'd never heard it before then, but it is such a great derogatory remark, and certainly fitting for someone who would steal a dog!
