A wireless electric containment system seems your best bet. I would say these other folks are right....your dogs weren't stolen, but they have been either eaten or dispatched. That's pretty sad. I live in the country too but I know that any dog off their own property is considered fair game for moving target practice. I have a perimeter fence AND a wireless system for my two large dogs. No chaining here.
Since you've been letting your dogs free range for all these years and these are the first you've lost, you might look into any new neighbors in the area~be it two legged or four legged.
Someone found a cave near here recently and it contained a large pile of bones.....and numerous dog collars.
