My drakes foot is ALWAYS bleeding??!

Lots of people touch bumble and don't get it. Wash your hands well or wear rubber gloves if you are really worried.

The scab should have a lot of white cheesy stuff stuck to it when it is removed.

I wouldn't worry. I have really klutzy chickens that always seem to have bumble foot in one form or another. This summer I had 4 hens and a rooster running around in brightly colored vet wrap booties. I think they actually like them, especially the bright colored ones. I saw more than one hen lift her foot and look at it like, "That's COOL! I LOVE Pink!"

Seriously, I agree, if you have concerns, wear surgical gloves. You can get a box for next to nothing at Wally World. And definitely wash well with hot water and soap. not only your hands, but your arms as well. I'm a retired nurse and the hand washing is just second nature to me anymore. You should be washing after handling your ducks or chickens anyway so no big deal.

Technically, yes, staph is contagious. But the risk if you don't use common sense hand washing after treating your duck's feet, even if you do wear gloves, wash up afterwards.

That poor baby sure has himself some nasty looking feet. Sure hope he gets feeling better soon. Keep up the good work.

The surgical latex ones? My mom bought me a box of fifty gloves for my hands and I wore some today, I just always worry don't wanna get it or my other birds. And I always wash my hands and arms after handling any of my birds and especially right now with this so all should be fine? yeah his feet are awful, I'm so glad we are treating it now that we are aware. I'll update tomorrow when we treat him again I love him so much he was SO good today when we treated him

Yes....Only remove the top layer of scab...Tomorrow only soak the foot and reapply the iodine...Next day see after soak what you can get off...

So don't take off scab today? I'm going out there rn with him to treat

I was just catching up, I would say that already looks like an improvement from the first day.

Maybe tomorrow try to get a picture veggie and after you remove the scabs maybe then some of the others can really piont out what you are looking for.

So that's improving? He looks better? Tomorrow take a pic before the soak (with scab on) and after soak when we take scab off?
