My drakes foot is ALWAYS bleeding??!

Pics
Those big nasty scab looking things? That's what is supposed to be picked off? Well there's only one side left of that since Ronnie pulled the other off

Yup, that is what you want to get out... and the stringy stuff... but cutting *shouldn't* be needed...

Tell Ronnie he did good... today was rougher than it should have been, but you are both doing great...

Okay.. he cut some but he also did a lot of scraping with the scalpel too. Just lots of bleeding and it looked nasty and violent we automatically started saying omg what did we do.. boyfriend is sad at home. Keeps Asking me if he will be okay. So what should I do tomorrow to the foot we didn't touch? And for the one he did cut?

Make sure your phone is charged up so you can take pics each step of the way, as much as possible... post them as you go, if you can...

Soak the foot in warm epsom salt water, wash it with antibacterial soap afterwards and rinse well... then try prying up around the edges of the plug with tweezers and pull out any stringy/chunky pieces that are whitish/yellowish... rinse, apply iodine, gauze and wrap... if it bleeds, use the wound powder and then the guaze pad...

That help? These are just basics, may need to change as you go, just try to keep calm and adjust as needed... I would get pics of the first foot and post before messing with it further...

Think of it like a hole in the ground, bowl shaped, filled with wet/chunky cement. You need to get the cement out, but leave the earth as is, until the majority is out. Then figure out how to clean it all off the dirt. You don't want to disturb the earth any more than necessary, but you have to clean out all of the cement. Some may eventually need scraped, but get the main stuff out first, then reevaluate.

Read quotes above... at most, only soak and get pics of the foot already cut...

Okay tomorrow I will do 15-20 min epsom salt soak and then take pics for you guys of both feet uncut and cut. And you can tell me what to do from there. Sound good? Iodine or ointment though on it and bandage?

Sounds good... you can use iodine and ointment both, if needed... but pics before applying anything, ok?

I hope he got the bleeding stopped before he went home?

This is very traumatic but you both are doing great. :hugs

Such sweet pics. :love
We stopped the bleeding before we left the Ag farm after school don't worry. My boyfriend went back out to check on him like four hours later that night and he was doing good! Quacking up a storm and walking around just fine no limps nothing. Yes it sure is it's an awful experience for me, but my boyfriends emotions are coming out and you can see how much he truly loves our Aflac boy <3

Good to hear he was walking good when he went back to check on him.

Yes we can tell you love your drake it's tough having to treat them I get very emotional when it comes to my birds or dogs, But we have to take care the best we can especially when vet care is out of the question. Hopefully this is a good step to healing now. and your other lil one should heal quick with just soaking and using the clear iodine since her's is not that bad to begin with.

:) thanks. These two just are getting over fowlpox. This has nothing to do with this thread or Aflac lol. But These two turkeys I love dearly and they had a nasty case of fowlpox for three weeks it's pretty much going away now
