My duck/chicken life

Sadly, every part of me gets cold.
You sound like my wife... I'm sitting here in short sleeves and shorts complaining it's too hot and she's wearing a sweater and a jacket complaining its too cold. :gig

I love all that wonderful green grass. It makes for happy healthy birds

Thats one of the reasons we allow them out each day.

Yup, they are very good at that.
Thats for sure. When they were chicks I used to collect crickets to put in their brooder that we had inside. They'd go nuts over them. If it was only one or two that went in, the lucky one or two would be chased around by the rest for a good half hour or so until they were completely gone.

When I raise meat birds, I'll do the same with meal worms to keep them exercising and after a good rain, I'll bring in some red wigglers. Always good for at least a half hour workout and it gets them off the feed trough.

I don't think mom would want ours getiting to much exercise seeing as they would only be kept for a small period.

Good morning :frow

I don't have any proof, but I believe exercising them in the brooder, makes them better foragers and reduces early mortality rates. But you're right about a short period. Mine are in the brooder for 3 weeks and then 35 days on fresh grass and then off to processing.

Mom plans to only let them live about six months. On another note, we got a pip today! Around afternoon! And she's already zipped a good amount! At the rate she's going, she should bebe picture ready by tomorrow :)
