My duck doesnt like water

I have a 3 month old Khaki Campbell and she has only drank water out of a bucket so now i figured well u can have a little pool. So i got the pool we used to use for the geese cleaned in out very well and filled it up with water. So i went and got Ferdenand and when I set her down out of the pool she ran around it trying to see what it was she jumped in and as soon as her belly hit the water she jumped outta the water running and quacking. She went and hid under a board in the barn and I had to go dig her out. So I grabbed her and held her feet in the water and she was kind of kickn around and when I let go she got out as quick as she could. Is she a Aquaphobe or what?

Her instincts are there, she is just lacking the experience. Let her walk around the pool every day and eventually she will learn that it is fun. Make sure that there is a concrete block in it. So she can stand in the water trying to figure it out. It's just a question of time.

I got 8 Khakis about 6 weeks ago. Strange little ducks I must say. They will NOT get in any of the pools, I have put a platform, bricks, planks, you name it for them to get in but NOOOOOOO. They will all gather round a bucket and dip their heads in really fast and make the motions of having a bath while standing next to the bucket. Are all Khakis like this. Im thinking of selling mine....thinking, but I dont know if I have the heart to.

You could try putting some chopped lettuce or greens in the water and she might be encouraged in to feed on it.

If its any comfort, only one of my ducks likes to swim, the others just dip their heads! they can get in if they want, but just choose not to. the one who does then has the ponds to herself and doesn't have to share. she is also the cleanest of them all!

I taught my ducks to swim in the jacuzzi bath tub with warm water. Then as it got summer, my husband took them all swimming in the stockpond and showed them how much fun it was. Not a problem after that!

Ugh my boys LOVE to swim, intact it's tough to get them out of the water. They don't even like to get out to eat, so I go through a lot of floating koi food and guppies. They sleep in their pond each night...it will be interesting to see how they react when it freezes

If I could get away with a bucket, I would not know what to do with myself. I'm jealous now...

I have a 2.5 year old muscovy drake who only got maybe 2 baths as a duckling and till this day wont go near water. I have a small pond that I tried to put him into and he flipps when his feet cant touch the bottom. I went and got him a baby pool and he still wanted nothing to do with it. The only way to get him to take a bath is to pick him up and put him in. If the water is cold and out of a hose, he will jump right out. So I have to run a hose from the sink in my basement to the pool to fill it with warm water, only then will he take a bath.

Thats really weird i have never seen a duck that doesnt like water till now

Yeah, I have some ducks that don't like there kiddy pools, but now my khakis will get in to bathe and fornacate, and they get out, as far as like some of my others that roost in the kiddy pools, but now the age might have a factor, that duck might know he don't have his swimming oil on his feathers yet, duck instinct.
