My duck eggs hatching early!?!? Did I do something wrong?

Pics
Oh no just paper towels, I was being cautious with newly hatched babies... Didn't wanna start them off in shavings, worried they might eat it. First ever fresh hatched babies I've ever had;-)

I have pine shavings, also outside. I usually don't do paper towels. Too expensive! But because they had hatched here at home, I used them just until well until tomorrow! Like I said, my brooder is in the living room filled with chicks too old to be inside and only because I'm down a coop due to my husbands favorite dang tree that I personally wanna cut down! It's old and doesn't give me pecans so it's just slowly falling apart but since he won't let me cut it down we will watch it slowly die limb by decrepit limb!
AWEE poor tree, I'm surprise they aren't trying to eat the paper towels. LOL Mine will carry the paper towels in the WATER, so I had no choice but to get rid of it. What the heck is paper towels doing in the water? Are they checking it for absorbant? The quicker picker upper?

They have tasted the paper towels but they don't drag them yet... Lol. They make much mess on them though! My husband comes home in a week, so this box only has to last a week and a day unless I find something better until he comes home. He's gonna fix my bitty box (or build me a new one) then these guys are going in the big galvanized trough in the living room that is my baby brooder. (Like the ones tractor supply uses when they have chicks for sale)

I have raised many from few day old chicks and ducklings, first time ever hatching my own. I feel like I went from the equivalent of an adoptive parent to a gave birth to my own parent

I know! But I can't get him home any sooner! I have a much bigger tote, but it is full of crap and in the shed. Between work tomorrow, I'm gonna try to get at it. Fill it with shavings the bigger water and food dispenser. (Also the screw on type that supports mason jars) I have a box with all that stuff including the mason jars that are for chick and duck use only. Waterers from quail size to two gallon size, straight feeders with the holes in em you name it
