My DUCK GOT ATTACKED BY MY DOG!! HELP PLEASE!!!*PICS INCLUDE

Hello. About 3yrs ago i had a dog that got hold of my hen. I caught him just in time. Her back muscles were completely exposed he had plucked her and tore through her skin. When i found her she looked like she had already gave up amd was going to let him. She looked up at me like "help" I brought her in cleaned her back with warm water and put gauze to hold her off until I got peroxide anitibiotic ointment and Nustock. I swear by that stuff. Well the next day as she was still eating normally I took her out for no more than 5mins and i noticed a fly on her back. I brought her back in and went to clean her up and redo her bandages. She had maggots in her skin pockets under her wing😳 picked out each and every one. She eventually healed and went back to laying in like 2 weeks. She still has a limp but shes healthy and my little survivor. Good luck heres a pic at day 6 before I applied her Nustock on it. I get mine at my local feed store. I hope my story gives u hope that ur duck could pull thru. Just keep it cleanView attachment 2364484View attachment 2364485
Excuse my French,but
Nustock is the shyt.

Ribbit Ribbit, hope your duck can survive. One of my ducks tried to eat a bee and got stung on the tongue, my brother tried to pull it out but the stinger was so strong he accidentally pulled half the stinger out, and unfortunately the duck died. But I bet your duck can survive.

This is my girl. And yes she also lost a toe that day

I've just read through this whole thread with my heart jumping for poor Clover.

What a great community this is, I second that!

I have questions:

Have you wrapped up the wound with a dressing or left it open? I'm thinking a dressing will help keep it moist and clean, as if left open at this early stage it is more likely to dry out, get flies in and bacteria.

Did you manage to get the right ointment yet or some honey?

Antibiotic medicine is essential with dog bites. Clover may start to heal but could very likely get sick from infection and die from sepsis in a week's time. Please get some antibiotic medicine online or from the feed store today. It is really important. Someone has given you names to look for already.

Doesn't change the fact that MY birds are pets and if someone else's dog hurt them, I wouldn't be too forgiving.
I do agree that I have a right to protect my livestock from roving dogs looking for thrill kills, but culling a puppy that has no socialization training yet is a little bit severe to me.

In my estimation, the puppy was taken away from the litter before it had learned bite inhibition.
