My duck has Bumblefoot

NathanZee, the clear iodine is often called "Iodine Tincture" as well... in pharamcy sections of Walmart, CVS, Walgreens, etc... it is a very small bottle, not a big one like Betadine or Peroxide, etc...

Or were you talking about finding Duramycin? I just realized that, lol...

Sounds like you have one of the difficult ones, where the tissue is swollen around it too... can you get clear pics with the scab removed?
Yes, it's a small white bottle called Iodides Tincture.

No, I meant finding the splinter?

Yeah, it does seem more difficult. My goose had bumblefoot once, but his scab was a lot bigger. We will take some this evening of it removed.

Are you using clear iodine?
Yes.

When we remove the scab, should we cut a slightly larger opening to get the infection out?

I would avoid cutting unless as a last resort... bumblefoot infections are *usually* caused by a type of Staph and you want to avoid possibly spreading it into bloodstream...

You might try squeezing it out (not the best option) or you might have to dig it out with tweezers... just look for anything yellowish/whitish, healthy tissue should be pink...

I used a cuticle tool for excavating bumblefoot. It was helpful. It's small enough to kind of get in there and get the infection loosened up, and used tweezers to pick it out.

Okay.

We tried to dig it out with tweezers and got a little bit of whitish stringy stuff out, but not very much. And that area of her foot is still very swollen.

Oh, and sometimes it is hard to get out, if it's attached deep especially...
Maybe we didn't find the main part? What I don't understand is if all the swelling is caused by the infection, or if the infection is just a small part inside?

Oh okay. I'll check that out.

The one I worked on had swelling around like yours as well, I would take the advice about getting the duck on oral antibiotics as well, just in case...
