My duck is having seizures.

Your duck is obviously niacin deficient, you can tell by the pigeon-toed legs, so you better start treating her with a Cattle B complex brand immediately, and since she is on the older side, it may take a few weeks or more until there is a noticeable change in her walking.

Something I do want to clarify is that a deficiency in niacin will not cause Seizures, a thiamine deficiency can but not niacin. Could you post a video of her when she is having a seizure?
I will not be posting a video of her having a seizure as she has no trouble getting around any other time. She is simply having a seizure when her head rolls back and her legs go back in the air for 15-20 seconds. I do not carry my phone when she has these seizures because I am simply worried about her. So I apologize as I cannot post a video.

Hi, first of all
It would be helpful if you had your location under your avatar picture.

Simple to do and really helps people help you. Just go to the top right where your "BYC name" is and click. A drop-down menu will take you to “Account Details”. If you put your location there it will always be under your picture.

So, depending on where you are I'd like to recommend some food and niacin supplement for you..

Right now I'll pretend you are in the USA and tell you that Tractor Supply has Purina Duck Pellets that are good for all ducks. Once they start laying all you have to do is provide oyster shells on the side for the girls.

Even more important is the B-complex especially for pekins. They are bred for meat as you probably know. Their bodies grow faster than their legs can keep up with so they need tons of niacin to help with leg issues and trust me, Pekins all seem to have this problem! These are the 2 items you need to get and you can probably get them from Tractor Supply.

1 ml B-complex over a treat that your duck will eat right up every day and after a couple of few weeks you should start seeing improvement.

So yes, I am in the USA in the state of PA. I do have a tractor supply near by. I do not have my account fully set up as all I am worried about is getting my baby better. I apologize for not putting where I am located.

I am in need of some advice! My 13 week old peckin duck is taking 3 to 4 seizures a day. She had her legs grow wrong where they look bowed. Since then she has been healthy until two days ago. She started taking seizures badly. No vet in my area deals with exotic birds. My ducks and chickens both eat the same food, flock maker. If anyone could help I’d appreciate it I do not know how to help her
Is she drinking cold water when you refill/clean bowls? They will drink way to much and when they sit up in walking position from drinking they can get it in the lungs. When you water her, and see her do this, gently pick her up by legs so she hands her head down and see if water comes out. Baby ducks are tough, but the water gorge/ drowning is a tragedy. I keep water in 55 gal drums at outside temp instead of a garden hose so I don't lose any . I also make a chunky "salsa" from watermelon rinds I pulse in a little cheap food chopper. If I sell/deliver ducks I offer the salsa in a ziptie cup in carrier and then when we arrive I give the salsa about a half cup water and let them have for maybe a few minutes, take away for 15, then offer with the little water about 4 times before I allow them free choice. Do you get cold water from garden hose and wash swim pool/bowls and then fill and she gets in that and this happens? Salsa from water melon rinds, or peels canteloup, canned tomatoes. It slows them down so they don't asperate.
As for niacin, that shows up much soon er and not triggered by the heat. The difficency has been discussed ad nauseam. It appears usually in a almost paralyzed one side, usually the left, and can be a twisted posture in the neck. It's constant symptoms that get worse, not triggered 3 or so times a day. Her feed store probably recommended the feed when she explained she has ducks. They won't tell you a little brewers yeast in bulk at Costco added to water is cheaper , better fix . I feed spent brewers grain, to my black soldier fly larvae so they are "loaded up" on niacin and feed the brewers grain when they come in in evening so they are getting a fermented feed high in moisture which helps with it being to hot here in Texas. My 14 year old pair surprized me with ducklings and they are the only birds that live in my garden. If it's niacin deficiancy then a few doses will noticeably improve the duck in 2 days or less..I still say no cold water and don't ever let them go without at home for Amy period of time and the "salsa" for a treat is a good excuse to eat waterloo at my house.
What is the niacin content? I would really like to see a picture of her.

There was the member who got us all started @CayugaJana on liquid b complex she had some of her ducklings Having seizures and when she started them on the liquid b they recovered. It was probably the thiamine in the liquid B complex that took care of it and I did recommend people give it a try when they had a duckling having seizures. I trusted Jana since she is a scientist and had researched this. So the liquid b complex has many uses. To me that is a great find if it helps our ducklings/ ducks. Just always make sure it has the full range of b vitamins in the liquid b complex you get.
