Tuesday morning I went to go give my ducks fresh water and food in the morning (I have 2 ducks) and one of them was standing there as usual and the other one was just..gone. I looked everywhere around the pen there was no sign of breaking or entering. There was no sign of blood anywhere and no dead body. The only evidence that I can really spot is there are feathers but the difficult thing is that they both were molting into their new set of feathers for the spring so I cant tell if those are the feathers of the duck if it was attacked. My only two explanation for my missing duck is 1.since mating season starts around late winter my duck decided to fly off and go find a lake or pond to go breed or 2. she got attacked by a predatory bird, but I'm doubting that one because she was fat and its also late winter so I don't think that any of those birds would be around. Even if they were those predatory birds all ready would've gotten to her way back in the summer/fall.So if anyone could help me and give me a response that would be much apprectiated, thank you.

Where are you located?
Lots of hawk sightings here recently - unfortunately, after one took my polish hen.

Are they locked up in a predator proof house at night or in a pen? Does the pen have a top/cover?

I have a big fence area then a little house where the entrance is open so the ducks can go in and out whenever they want.

What should I do with the survivor? Should let her go? or should I keep her because I'm getting a new set of ducklings in about a month so in the next few months she'll have company when the ducklings grow up.

What breed ducks are you talking about? any body of water close by/ have you been to look? Not sure how well other domestic breeds can fly, i have Muscovy and they are great flyers. To me it sounds more like a flying predator unless she is a heavy breed like a Pekin or Rouen or Muscovy then I doubt a hawk could fly in and fly out with one. Have you checked with neighbors or other close by places where she may have flown if she flew?
