My Duck Needs Help!!!

It’s ok it’s only 4 foot deep. I really want to save him and the pond has been frozen for a few days and it’s a couple inches thick. I’m going to put a rope around my waist JUST IN CASE. I want to save him because I feel really bad for him

Is he stuck in one spot? Otherwise you are not going to be able to catch him, it's possible even if he is , he gets out of the water and climbs on the ice. The rope trick really works...really!

I had the same problem with my ducks. They wouldn't get out of the pond. One died from drowning because she got caught among the ice.

Anyway, this is going to sound strange but I was told to take a rope long enough to reach across the pond. My husband got on one side of the pond and I on the other. We took the rope and wiggled between us it while walking to where we wanted to lead the duck to, which was the garage. Oddly enough, all the ducks seem to be afraid of the rope and as we were walking toward the garage we slowly closed in until they got to the garage. Once we got to the garage, we closed the door and we're able to catch the ducks with the net. I thought they were crazy for telling me to try to use rope to coax the ducks into the area. At this point I was willing to try anything and amazingly it work like a charm. I had been trying for 2 weeks to get them out of the pond because it was freezing over. It took all of 10 to 20 minutes to get the ducks out of the pond and into shelter. One thing I like to note though is do not get close to the ducks until you actually get them into where you want them to be close the door behind you quickly to trap them in the area. If you get too close to the ducks they will find a way to escape. We stayed at least five feet away from the ducks waving the rope up and down and side to side like it was a snake. You might want to give that a try and see if it helps.

He's mourning his mate I've heard of that, very sad.
With my pair, I have a kiddie pool that I lug around and they love it even now in winter. I break and remove the ice in the mornings and they go right in .. Do you have anything where you could put actual water in to attract him and maybe he will leave the ice for something he could swim in?

If you have any unfertilized eggs you could throw into the ice for him to eat, my ducks love eggs especially the yolk

It does seem get difficult, I wish I knew more helpful ideas

That's exactly what I did! It works! Because they are afraid of the rope and will move away from it.
