So I have 3 female buff orpingtons. 2 have started laying, or I could be wrong on that. Whenever I go out to collect eggs I find 2 eggs in the same nest. I am sure they are from 2 different ducks unless one of my girls is trying to make a brood. I thought they lay 1 egg a day(unless the take a rest from it) and when they want to hatch they just, everyday keep adding to the nest. What are your thoughts? I do have one problem.....our coop is not yet attached to the run so if she does want to sit on them she can't. What if I left the eggs in there over night to see what happens/what she would do? In that case I need to know how long ducks eggs can sit out of the refrigerator. Thanks!!!

Hello..Using each other's nests is normal. You have two laying eggs. It takes 24 hours for a Hen to make an egg.
Hens will lay a clutch of eggs before they decide to set them. It could be 6 to 20 before she decides to begin setting. Eggs in a nest are fertile for 10 days and then begin to lose fertility after that..
Also young layers might not go Broody till the spring.

Thanks for all the helpful info! So if I want them to lay(or think they want to) I would just need to leave the eggs in the nest? They just started laying so I am not going to force anything.

Yes, if you want them to set eggs for hatching you will need to leave the eggs in the nest. Also you definitely need a Drake. Being they are young I would wait till next Spring..
