hey y’all! I’m new here. I figured it was best for me to join because I have a ton of questions.

So my ducks run to me when they see or hear me but that’s because they are expecting a treat (can of peas or corn). But they won’t let me pet them, and they get scared with any sudden movements. We’ve had them since they were 1 week old. Is there any advice you can give me?

Also, one of them has hair on their feet?

Idk much about ducks, I only have 2 pekins n they love me for my treats too...someone is sure to come along that is well versed in the way of the duck...pictures? We love pictures

@Duckmom239 It sounds like your ducks are normal. Mine let me briefly touch their neck feathers, but only if I have a handful of mealworms. If they run to you for food, you have already won the battle. They see you as a kind person bringing them food and fresh water. Ducks really don't enjoy being held or touched. Some will tolerate it more than others.

Your question is about the hairy feet? Can you add a picture?

As far as the Ducks acting skittish that's what Ducks do. I'd say it's pretty good that you at least get them that close! You don't want to overdo it with treats because unlike humans you can't really tell if a duck is overweight by looking at them however their liver is can definitely get NAFLD( non-alcoholic fatty liver disease!!! Just think foie gras. You don't want your animals suffer just so that you could get close to them, right?

Try using treats such as different types of grass from your yard you'd be surprised how easy it works!

I read that someone on here said if you crouch down to be lowered to the ducks they will be less skittish and it definitely works!

The idea of you petting your ducks like a dog have yet to see that. You would have a better chance with Geese or chickens!

Gl!! U will be fine!!

Thank you guys! As long as it is normal than I’m happy!! Here is a photo of the one with hair on its legs. Both legs have it. This photo is not the best to see but I’ll take a better one tomorrow.

Same here. Sunny the Peking peaks around the house and gives me the side eye. Like I can't see her--it's hilarious. I can pick them up, I have to or they won't go in the pool. The Peking is the calmest and will let me hold her.

I figured out why they don't go in the pool, they jump in the 5 gallon bucket meant for dunking. I've caught the Peking and the female khaki in there.

Wow! Ok I feel so much better. I’ve been googling this for a month and don’t know how I never saw the other thread!!
I’m still trying to find out whose male and whose female. I’m definitely a newbie at this!!
