It's hard to tell from the photo, but one thing that could have happened is a broken blood feather. It is pretty common after molting when new feathers are growing in. The new feathers can easily get damaged by the bird flapping their wings and bumping the tip on a hard surface. Other birds can be attracted to the bright color of blood and peck at it, causing further damage.
