My EE is a big tease!-- UPDATED TODAY 10/21/10!!!

I think it varies, because I thought it would be 30+ weeks for my 3 EEs, but they were 25 weeks old when they started laying. And, they did keep acting like they were going to do it for several days, but once they start, it'll be worth it!
I love them so much that I take pictures of the eggs every few days! All three lay the same shade of blue/green, and the pullet ones are quite small, but nonetheless, at least they're a green egg!

Hope this helps you hang in there, knowing that they'll lay once they're good and ready!

Welp, another day and still nuttin'. The girls are out there putting themselves to bed now (they put themselves in the run when the sun goes down; all I have to do is go out there and close the door). The leghorn did her duty this morning, as always... but still nothing from the EE or anybody else. The rest of the girls are 26 weeks, as well, and haven't even developed combs and wattles yet (the 26-week-ers are a RIR, a BR, and a wellie). The leghorn was late at starting, as well. She didn't start until she was 21 weeks which is late for her breed. When I got them, I was told they were 3-4 months old and that they were already on layer food... I later found out they were only 6 weeks. They have been here now going on 21 weeks. I was told they'd all be laying by September. Yeah, right. For the 3 26-week-ers that aren't laying yet, I fear that if they don't start soon, I won't get anything from them until next spring. I have heard that if they do not lay their first egg by the first frost, they won't lay until spring... is that true?

Still nuttin'. She squats, she sings the egg song, and she tosses nesting material over her shoulders! This whole egg-laying behavior has been going on almost 2 weeks now (it'll be 2 weeks come day after tomorrow) and still no egg. Could she be eggbound already? Is there something I should check for? She squawks from sunup to sundown. She's driving me insane. My leghorn engaged in this behavior for MAYBE a day and a half before she dropped an egg! I know they're all different, but two weeks???

Aaaaarrrghhh!!! Chicken frustration.

You know, this is getting really silly! Her face is bright scarlet red, as is her lovely pea comb which is now quite "chunky", for lack of a better description. She squats EVERY time we come near her. She sings the egg song off and on all day long. She goes into the henhouse and rearranges hay. All day, every day. But she ain't layin' no steenkin' eggs.

She's about to become chicken pot pie.

OMG I'm at 9 weeks and I'm going crazy ,wondering what kind of chicks I've got ,how many of my pullets are really roosters, what color eggs I will get do i have an EE or a maran,I'm never going to make it to 20 weeks, the only once I know I have is ! sultan,a turken and a polish and I'm not excited about any of there eggs.

Hopefully HHandBasket won't mind if I post some pictures of the egg
