My eggs are here!!!

ok so i'm new too this all when you say you hear peeping you hear this before they hatch?

Yup!! The chicks were peeping inside of their eggs! It was pretty cool, an obvious sign of life that was MUCH needed for a first timer like me!

I'll get pics up soon!

Hows everthing coming along Sarah?

I have 5 valleys out and about 30-40 coturnix pipping.
I cant see the chickens eggs too good, its so crowded in there.

Ashlee is missing it, hopefully they will still be hatching tomoro when she gets off work.

Kinda cool to "make" a bird in an incubator that you also made!
Good job!

Umm, Sarah . . .
Hope you are ready for those chukars . . .

I just candled 26 of my eggs, from randomly all over my incubator, and every single egg was going.

Good veins, active embryos.
If you go look at yours, you should see the shadow of the embryos swimming around towards one side of the egg and near the vein cluster.

When I candle, I hold the light upside down and slightly leaning, bring the egg up to it and rotate the egg slowly till I see movent.
I hold the egg a bit above my head, so the light is basically shining towards my eyes and thru the egg.
I also taped a PVC plastic fitting to my AA flashlight, the 1/2" coupler works great for coturnix and the 3/4" coupler works good for these chukars and chickens; you have to wrap the coupler in tape tho as it will shine thru.

Im starting to come around to the idea that if done properly, washing and sanitizing eggs is a great thing, AND . . . these eggs were all REFRIGERATED for I think 2 weeks before we got them.
Amazing!

32 out and 52 eggs still in the incubator! I threw out the two eggs with wax on them, they were duds...

I started getting worried that the 52 eggs left might be duds too, so I picked one up to candle it, and felt movement!! I didn't even have to take it out of the bator! So much fun!! My daughter tried to eat one last night though....

We were showing daddy the brooder when he got home and she snatched one up and started to stick it in her mouth! She didn't get it in all the way or bite down, lucky chick!!

I told her she has to wait about 12 weeks before she can eat any!

Wow!! Thanks for the tip Greg! I candled one in a dark room, but all I saw was veins, no shadow, Then again I had to rush because my kidlets were running about! I'll try again later! Were the guys eggs in a refridgerator refridgerator? or a cooler? Neat to hear, Maybe I'll have to buy some eating eggs from Andrew...

How many valleys did you set?

My husband has the camera today at work with him, so pics will have to wait until later!

Nothing, nada, no more pips from the 52 in the incubator, maybe I was imagining feeling some movement? How long do I wait with these in the incubator?

I was hoping for more chickies, I probably messed up in the last few days somehow...

Thats how it went for me tha last few times also, get the initial hatch then nothing with the rest, pipped or not.

I cracked open eggs, to find fully formed chicks.

I think its from humidity too high in the begginning, causing chicks to drown at the end.
Thats just my theory, I am testing my current batch with lower humidity, but it might be too low now.

I would try to take a couple that are pipped, and carefully open them.
You have plenty of good babies, so its not like your gonna lose out if a few die from trying.

PS- I havent really candled these eggs from slavik too much, but I did last night.
Over half were clear, I am not too happy with that.
He mighta had young birds or not enough males . . .

At least Im getting SOME nice big jumbos . . .

Im just worried about the chukars, it seems almost every single egg is developing . . . thatsa lotta chukars

Imm make a call to my breeder again when both bators are empty, itll be valleys and gambels next time hopefully, Tim has good eggs.
