My Eggs from Sonew arrived!! I HAVE A BABY!!!!!!!!!

thanks everybody, yes I will never allow that to happen again. I thought the bowl was too high for the babies to get into.

But I guess they can get into anything. The other baby is hatched and bee bopping all around the incubator, peeping and falling and tryin to run!!! He or she is going to be spoiled because I will have to stay with him so he don't get lonely, the other chicks are a month and half old now But I think they will peck at the little one. So I don't want to put him in with them til he's bigger.

Here he is or she? Gonna take out of bator soon have a box warming and getting ready for the chicky

It's sad. But at least you have one healthy chickie. What is he...by the way? He looks like he's got silkie traits...but that comb....hmm??

I really enjoyed viewing this post.....

I'm on day 6 myself and tried to candle a few of my eggs. I wish I knew what I was looking at. The Marans eggs are hard to tell which end is the big end and after putting the light through them...... I'm wonding if I put them in the incubator the the big end down..... Here is a link to the post with pics...

https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=287923&p=3 Should I turn them so that the lighter end is up or is it light because the shell is thinner on the little end?.... I'm clueless....

Derrick,

The fat end goes up if you are hatching in a carton. If not, you can just lay them on their sides. The air cell should be at the fat end.

I haven't had Marans eggs but if they were like those olives I had, I couldn't see a thing until the egg was filled with chick, and then I could see the aircell but hat was it.

Sonew's candler that she made (directions in this thread a few pages back) could probably see through them, though, if you wanted to make one of those.

Got my bator all cleaned out and ready for the next time. It was a breeze to clean! No mess with the cartons.

Gonna pile up on the couch and snuggle with Bella and my laptop. Doesn't get better than a baby silkie nesting on your shoulder and in your hair and BYC all night!

Yeah, I am. I've never had a chicken that was this cuddly! This is the absolute sweetest one I've ever had. But i've never had a silkie. The only other one I've ever had that was close was an Ameracauna but even she wasn't this cuddly. I didn't get her until she was older, but she would fly up and sit on my shoulder. (The hawk got her, though.) I hope Bella stays this way!

Seriously, anybody know how to housetrain a chicken? LOL
