Hi! My ewe lamb that I shown last year is pregnant and 14 days away from lambing. She has already had twin lambing disease. Now she won't get up and has really nasty, sticky, and smelly diarrhea. I was hoping the internet would help but so far no luck. If anyone knows please help me. Everything I've read says I could lose her in 3-4 days in-treated. If anyone has any ideas please feel free to comment anything helps thank you...

We called a vet and they told us that she is still sick with toxemia but won't come out to check her out and there are no other vets available in our county.
Is there a vet in a near by county that might see her if you brought her in? I know nothing about sheep, except I like them, just trying to think out of the box. :hugs Good luck, you and your sheep are in my prayers.

Thank you so much for your prayers! We can't get my ewe up so there is almost no way to get her to a vet outside our county. We have used a vet that is hours away for major things but he is to far to travel to and he is also to far to come down. Thank you so much for your valued comment. I also like sheep very much. Again, thank you very much for your help towards getting my sheep better1

Googling "sheep pregnancy toxemia" or "goat pregnancy toxemia" should give you some treatment options.

You need to force feed her LOTS of fluids to flush out her kidneys, along with electrolytes, protein and CALORIES to supplement the requirements of her unborn lamb and herself.

With goats, I drench them with a drench gun, ~500ml every 4 hrs until birth. It is HARD HARD HARD work, but is worth it when you save the Mom and baby. In our area, for some reason this year, all of the local producers have been hit HARD by toxemia/ketosis. Even the vets are stumped as to why... There have been more C-sections performed this spring than the last 20 years combined.

The vet had told us that if she does not get better than we would have to abort the babies. As it seems she isn't getting better so with her being only 13 days away can they preform a C-section?

I hope and pray people keep coming in with new ideas for your ewe, perhaps someone has an answer that will work. Check your site regularly, do your homework on the ewe's problem and we will do the praying and hopefully come up with an idea that will work for both your ewe and her lamb. :fl :hugs

@sheepfarmer00 Sounds like a really good plan to start with, how much away from her due date is she? This may just work, animals have given birth without our help for a really long time. How ever we should continue to help if we can and continue to pray. Any new ideas, anyone? Anybody know anyone on this site who might have some insight into how to handle this problem? Have you checked on this site for something close to what you are going through or been able to find someone who also keeps sheep who may be willing to help?
