My favorite hen is missing... Update IS BACK & BROODY! after 2 days!

Okay, I got some pics of the "nest"... not very tidy... eek! Looks like she's kicked some rotten eggs out of her nest (the ones to the left)... I'm wondering how far these eggs are along... goodness, I really wish I could candle'em!
Soooo... I've been thinking about maybe putting Nan in a broody set up with these eggs (I think maybe I can reach in and try to get them with a plastic garden rake) or maybe some different eggs. My plan was (and still kindof is) to leave her to do her thing under the barn... but last night (and a couple of nights before) the dogs were barking like crazy and it kept waking me up and making me wonder if everything was okay. So far everything has been okay... but, we have lot's of critters... oh what to do... what to do?!? Do I leave her alone or do I intervene... what would you guys do?

You will sleep better at night, knowing Nan and the eggs are safe! Candle them if you like and if all looks good

...go for it!
If the eggs are rotten,

..maybe get a few fertilized eggs and set them under Nan...

at least you know she is broody!

I've got one that's gone wandering off on her own too! I spotted my bratty girl Sunday after 3 weeks of MIA, there she was~ at the pen door, chomping spilled crumbs, dustbathing, and refusing to submit to my roo!

I agree with harewizard, it's what I would do absolutely or you may end up with no hen or eggs

Yep, I've got the broody set up ready to go. I will have to catch her off the nest as I don't see how I can safely get her out from under the barn... I will gather and check her eggs to see if they are viable... if they are - great... if not, I have some other fertile eggs I can try to fake her out with. Okay guys, I'll keep you posted. I'm so glad I have you all... my hubby tries to listen and wants to care... but, he's just not a chicken person.
