Well, son, hubby and I have searched and searched the property all day... and no Nan! We are now thinking perhaps she has her nest under the barn... thinking back I'm remembering seeing her in and around that area alot lately... I've even seen her go under the barn a couple of times come to think of it... hmmm.
I am also now beginning to wonder just how long Nan has been keeping her little secret. The coop she is in has an automatic door and after 2 years, I no longer do a nightly head count. So, really the only reason I noticed she wasn't in the coop was because I was reintroducing one of my hens back into this coop and in the process of making sure this girl made it in, and stayed in, I realized Nan was missing (she's always the first one in at night and has "her" spot). I do a count out in the yard when I'm feeding and gathering eggs... usually Nan is "free ranging" elsewhere... so not seeing her in the yard is nothing new.
So what to do... what to do...
I guess I will wait for another Nan sighting... then we will have our stake out to confirm suspicions or learn more about her double life. I really thought I knew her... but I'm learning more and more about this mysterious hen of mine.
