Silly chickens - they were probably trying to roost up there again while i was gone to teach tonight.

They get fresh water and feed check at least 3x per day - they are just messy critters - I swear you can put the fresh water in and by the time they settle down from your big scary hand putting the water back in, there is a pile of shavings and 3 poops in there again...

Sigh...I'll be glad when they are a few more weeks older and can go out!

They are EXTREMELY messy little boogers. It's just the nature of chicks

I just love your cam, I can get my chick fix several times a day.

What did the school kids think of the chicks?

The kids were great! The chicks cooperated so that there were a couple ready to hatch at the time i was to go to the school. I took 2 hatchlings and 2 ready to hatch and one jumped the gun and hatched in the car on the way.

The other held on until we got there and the class room got to gather around and watch it hatch.

I also took video of a couple of the other eggs hatching just in case.

I made a temporary brooder/hatcher out of one of those clear plastic small animal cages - put shelf liner in the bottom for traction, a small water container for humidity and put plastic wrap over the top under the lid to keep the humidity up and poked a few holes for ventiliation.

I loaded that into a box with a heating pad in the bottom and covered with towels and it stayed a toasty 94-98 degrees until I got back home.

Anyway, it was loads of fun!
