Help! Has anyone had this happen with their female ducks? My female Call duck is the loudest of the bunch, but today I went out and she just opens her bill and can't quack at all. She seems fine otherwise, eating and drinking. Should I be worried?? Thanks in advance :)

Can you feel her neck to see if she has anything stuck in it?

Gosh, I haven't had this happen. I don't know what to suggest other than what Cayuga mamma already said.
Do you think she is broody? I have noticed when my gals go broody they will sometimes run around and act crazy. . opening and closing their bill snapping like a gator without making noise.
But they can still quack when they want to so if yours isn't quacking at all this is probably not it.
Maybe try some acv in her water dish. ?

Hi, welcome to BYC! :frow

Are you sure it's a hen and not just a drake voice coming in? What is her age? Sorry I have to ask.

Hope all is well! :fl

I had a couple of ducks lose their voices, but never never did figure out why. Changes in vocalization can be a sign of an infection, so If I were you I would keep a close eye on her, and if possible, consult a vet and ask them to do a gram stain and or a culture to check for bacteria and/or yeast.

Thank you so much for the replies! I did check her throat and neck, no problems there. She's still eating and drinking fine. She is a female for sure, has hatched babies in the past. Her voice has come back a little, sometimes she gets some good quacks out, but she's not back to normal. I will add some Apple Cider Vinegar to her water also, that is a great suggestion! I know it's good for them whether or not it helps her voice :D I may be taking a trip to the vet soon :(. Unfortunately won't be her first, she has a bad knee too, poor little thing.
