Does it lok like blisters? Might be fowl pox. Doesn't really look like it though, from the pix.

A few weeks ago I had my hens looking the same, black areas on combs, wattles, and face. I couldn't find anything on the net. About the time I was gonna freak out I realized it was changing daily, so I watched for a few days and found out it was just dirt from dustbathing. Good luck

maybe she fell out of a semi? looks like some kind of production red or sex-link. I would guess she was either on her way to slaughter or moving to a new egg production facility. Not sure about the blackening. Glad she found you guys though (er, you found her

The black on his comb as said before may just be from a fight, but do keep him seperate.
. hey I lost 2 beauty roos feathered foot black cochins,2 days ago
5 months old..
If you see any more send them home LoL

I would almost bet she was a production hen. Maybe a redstar. They lay huge brown eggs. She was probably sick of that life and escaped. Good for her!

Good luck with her.

She looks like a production red. I would keep hydrating her and put some poly vit in her water(infant section at drug store) Do the scrambled egg and yogart. The yogart will help digestion. That is just a shame! I wonder if she was used to prep for fighting cocks. Lord i hope not and thank god she got away and was found by a loving family!

And i second the why don't i ever find a stray chicken....LOL. Guess that is a good thing though~

Best of luck and your doing a great job! Battery hens in the USA

from the picture it looks and story what about this senario:
on her way to a new production farm/butcher and fell out of the truck... road rash on the comb. Now we know why the chicken crossed the road... to escape the processing plant.
