We have one chicken egg hatching at this moment. It is the first from my hens. The mother is a buckeye and the father is a wheaten colored EE. Should be pretty. There are also 3 doz guinea eggs due on Tuesday.

hollyk, that's exciting! I wish I could have hatched my first eggs but I didn't even think about it back then. It took a bit for my addiction to take full hold

Thanks Sissy!

Now #6 and #7 are out! one is a very pale chipmunk, even lighter than chick #1. The other is yellow with darker gold around the eyes. Here is a pic of #5, #6, and #7 all sitting in the bator visiting with me. The pip visible is one of the 2 quitters. There is still one that is working on zipping and 7 eggs that have done nothing as of yet.

I had to help #8 out of the shell but she is out now. the darkest of the three chipmunks but still very light. Here she is, almost dry and fully recovered from her 2 days of trying to hatch. In the brooder because she was panicking alone in the bator. I took the other 3 out of the bator when I helped her hatch because I knew she was going to be very weak.

Here are the 8 total chicks.

There are still 6 eggs that have done nothing and I will give them until Tuesday morning (day 25) to see if they are still alive/will hatch. I had 3 quitters, although 2 I think were directly caused by the other chicks crashing around in the bator. The first had zipped and just had to kick out when I noticed it bleeding. I thought the blood was coming from it's nose but now that I have unwrapped it I see that it has a big gash in it's side where some shell had been forced into it. I have no doubt that it happened while the other chicks were piling on that egg as it tried to hatch. The second that I think the others damaged had part of the shell broken away on the bottom where it sat against the floor grate, but the chick had never pipped inside at all. The third quitter was nobodies fault, it had yolk all over the inside of the shell on one end so it apparently just ripped open for whatever reason that sort of thing happens.

So as it looks right now the total could end up being 8 out of 17 fertile eggs hatched. So about 49% on my first try. Not bad I think. Who knows, maybe my percentage will improve by Tuesday. I'll keep you guys posted if any more hatch.

Thanks again Sissy! I was going to sell all 8 but that last one that I had to help out has become very attached to me, and me to it, so I think I will keep her. I named her Bounce.

Bounce got her name because she has a tendency to jump off of anything and bounce down on her chest! She is slowly out growing that tendency (thankfully!). She is still quite the little spirit though! She peeps whenever I'm not holding her. A lot of the time she likes to snuggle right against my neck and sleep there under my hair

She is just too cute!
