My First Broody!

Pics
Yay, chicks for you!

I'm concerned about Prudence's brood. She spends a long time off the nest each afternoon/evening, it seems. I saw one chicken egg with a large pip in it. When I lifted the egg was Prudence was gone, the chick was alive. One other chicken egg and a guinea egg have pips. I'm just concerned. She's way more erratic than Helen, who sat steadily. Prudence is filthy and bizarre and I'm worried the time off the nest will cause shrink wrapping. Still, the point is seeing how she does on her own, so . . . hoping for at least a few.

Some aren't good mothers. Always be ready to step in and raise them yourself.
I’m ready. The incubator is running just in case. A brooder takes a matter of minutes to set up. But she’s still sitting a lot. I just worry I screwed up, mostly. Incubating the eggs in the incubator, then putting them under her, then trying unsuccessfully to move her, twice. Now it’s crunch time. I’m just crossing my fingers.

Sounds like me. I always make the worse decisions, than change my mind. Good luck. :fl

I have a bit of a problem, it seems that one of the chick’s yolk sack broke or something. What should I do? View attachment 1459891View attachment 1459892
I was able to cleanup the area and it was just some stuck shavings.
Uh ho.
I'm not sure what if anything needs to be done.

Are they all leaving this area alone?
You might want to keep a close eye to make sure they don't start pecking it.
