My First Broody!

My first broodies just hatched a week ago. First 1 OEGB went broody, then my 2nd one joined in. They would not brood separately. They hatched a buff chantecler and are doing a fantastic job co-parenting.


Eta: my silkie hen slipped some eggs under them as well. When the buff hatched I moved the silkie eggs to the incubator. Textbook development in the eggs. 3 have hatched & the final egg just pipped. Here's the first 2 (buckeye roo x silkie hen)

Nice variety. I’ve always wanted a Dominique. I was going to get an order of chicks for next year...but I have a broody.

I’m following this thread now too! One of my girls went broody and I put some extra eggs under her and marked them on the 14th. The other two hens have been adding whenever she gets up to eat and poo. Will take some pics tomorrow, should I wait til day 10 or later to candle? I don’t want to disturb her.

You don't Have to let the broody hatch. Personally, I would let her. Luckily I live on a large acreage in a county that has a 300 chicken limit before I'd have to apply for a commercial license.
There are a lot of threads on here about how to break a broody.

Nice variety. I’ve always wanted a Dominique. I was going to get an order of chicks for next year...but I have a broody.

The Dominique is my girl. I bend down pat my arm and she flys up on it to get some attention. The others just like to do what chickens do.
