First timer with incubation (I’ve always allowed broodies to handle it). My first chick just hatched and I want to share her behavior and you let me know if it’s normal. So she just hatched maybe 5 minutes ago. She (or he) goes in between making a ruckus and then laying down to rest. She’s causing a lot of the eggs to turn upside down to where the pip holes are facing down. I’m worried she’ll become a danger to them, am I incorrect?

This has happened with every hatch I've done, and with the rare exception, eggs that are going to hatch, hatch, regardless of how the first hatchlings roll them around. I have found they stay much calmer when I don't shine a light on them, and try to keep the room darkened if possible.

Thank you. I turned off lights and lone chick seems much calmer.
