Do you let yours free range? I want them to get the sunshine, exercise and nutrients has to offer but have to keep them more protected. I might need to switch from a coop in the winter to a tractor in the summer. Plus the corn is so high up here this year, who knows what's living in it. Also, they didn't have a rooster by them. We had to put him down because he chased all of us badly

I'm trying to get them to free range but they haven't built up the courage to venture out yet. I have a feeling they are going to stay close to the coop even if they do leave the run.

Sorry for your loss   Have you considered building a protected fenced in area that they can get outside and still be safe from predators?

Very good point! I think i need to. We'll have to make it high enough so they don't fly ir roost on it. It's all trial and error I'm finding.

Yes, mine range... and that was where the prob is... Howard is a good roo, protects all his girls... but not from a 100 pound dog.I'd GIVE you a roo or two if you were close... I'm overrun with testosterone at the Mo.....the chickens are so spoiled to go OUT every AM, that I am mobbed at the door the times I have to keep them in.
