My first chicken harvest

Last June we got 6 chicks, and 3 turned out to be roosters. They are not aggressive, but too noisy, especially one neighbor also has roosters. So anyway, I watched quite some videos and finally decided to use the broomstick method and directly skin them - so I don't need any additional device.

I processed 2 roosters today, and kept one for raising further offsprings. They are all about 8 months old, but already quite big. Directly skin them isn't that easy, but with a good scissor and patience, the work can be properly done in 30 mins.

The feather, skin, head, and the parts we don't need were buried in the garden. We dug a hole for planting a new tree, so the rest of the chickens were put inside first.

It's still a heavy thing, but they did enjoy a good life here. Their contributions are appreciated and remembered.

One more step to process the meat and organs - they are totally different from the chickens I bought in the supermarket! Now I understand why people will raise their own meat birds.

Such a beautiful gizzard!

Four boneless chicken thighs - a delicious stew will be the best option

Chicken breast - I used the 2-year-old salted lemon to give them some massage and rest - kind of semi-dry-brining.

My personal special - for all the hard work from the first day they were hatched, till this moment.

The chicken wings and feet are not yet processed. Our two raw-fed dogs will get the wings (with feather), and feet will also go to the stew.

As one who loves cooking so much, these are the best ingredients I can dream of after homegrown veggies and backyard eggs.
