That's a great story! Best used at Easter-time would be my guess!
We're full blooded mutt Americans, with a huge part being Swedish...and we've maintained some of our Swedish traditions that have been handed down through our families, especially holiday traditions. Part of the Swedish Christmas traditions include 'tomten' - think elf or pixie - if you leave a container of porridge (oatmeal) out for him or her, they'll 'help' with chores and be good. No treats, no help and instead mischief.
My 6yo and 3yo sons were busy playing while I 'laid the table' with brand new Christmas-themed cups and a steaming hot container of cocoa (hot chocolate) with mini-marshmallows.
I causually went into the playroom and asked if anyone needed a treat, knowing full well they did! Youngest son, hopped up, shouted "YES" and ran to the table. Where he found the new special cups and cocoa.
I played surprised, and told them that our 'tomten' must have left that gift for them.
Do you know - that to this day (they're now 12 and 9) - those cups STILL came from our 'tomten'?!
Later that same period (same week or what, I cannot recall) - I cleaned up the playroom for them during naptime. A sleepy son #1 came down, got REALLY excited, ran to me saying, 'Mom, Mom, the tomten cleaned up our toys for us....I left him my broccoli in the corner, but he didn't eat it!'
