My First Chickens!

I have ordered my first chickens!

I ordered 8 pullets -- 1 Black Australorp, 1 Black Langshan, 2 Light Brahmas, 2 Dark Brahmas, and 2 Delawares. I can only keep 4 once they are grown, but I wanted insurance against losing some so I'm planning on keeping the ones I like best.

DH has what he calls "The Chicken Palace" under construction.

Unfortunately I can't raise them myself because I don't have a place for a brooder, but I have a friend who is willing to raise them for me and I hope to be able to visit them regularly during the process.

I'm doing the happy dance because I have wanted chickens for as long as I can remember and now it has all come together.

Enjoy them! Haha I have 2 Australorp's (and one in the 'bator), they are super fluffy fat beautiful birds!

The woman who is raising them for me promised to send pictures and I'll post them as soon as I get them.

I ought to be able to tell Light and Dark Brahma, Delaware, Black Langshan, and Black Australorp chicks apart readily, right?

ACK! More delay.

An email from Ideal went astray. I asked for 6/19 as a delivery date. I got 6/19 as a hatch date. Delivery will be Friday.

But today is my chicks' hatchday.

They have arrived. I ordered 8 and got 12. I wasn't expecting extra males in this hot weather and now we're going to have to scramble to deal with space issues because they'll get overcrowded in a BIG hurry.

The woman who is raising them for me sent pictures but I can't get them off my phone to post them. They are, of course, utterly adorable and I can't wait to see them in person.
