Hi everyone!
I am new to chickens and am in the process of building my first coop!
I decided to make my own rather than buying one because I specifically wanted one tall enough for a human to walk around inside the run. I live in an urban setting so I like the idea of being able to go in and interact with the chickens for a bit without letting them or into the yard (or the neighbors).
I have never done any construction before so this is a learning curve. Luckily I have my fiance and his mom to help me, they are very knowledgeable if I have questions.
I used some free plans from HGTV I found online. Since I don't know what I'm doing I wanted something very detailed with instructions. Now I definitely wish I had found the coop section of this site first because there are some good ideas and ways to save time and money as compared with these plans I am using.

I hope to keep updating this as I make progress!

So far we just have the framing. Today we finished putting up the roof joists. Just as we were about to start with the steel roof, we discovered our order was cut incorrectly. They are replacing them for free, of course, but not for a couple weeks.
Good thing I am building my coop before I have chickens. :)

Nice framing. Looks like someone knows what notching a board is. Look to be a great build.
On the roof , will it have any overhang?
Or will it be all metal building?
Scott
The roof has a few inches of overhang but nothing so major as to add more 2x4s. (Just a few inches on all sides)
It will also be backed up against that garage for it's final position.
The rest of the coop will just be plywood and appearance board. And the hardware cloth around the run, obviously.

I am wondering on how the runoff from the roof will be handled with it backed up to the garage?

Ditto Dat^^^.....the Welcome too.

ETA: Just saw you're from Wisconsin......so snow will pile up on coop roof against garage wall.

Good big roof overhangs all the way around protect vents and windows too.
Don't forget about ventilation!

Yes my questions were leading to a larger overhang to protect the wood walls. A good example is a sided or log cabin. They always ,if built right, have large overhangs to protect the wood.
Look forward to progress pics.
