My first coop, first chickens (don't even have them yet!lol)

Made a bit more progress between yesterday and today. I scored a nice load of free 2x4's off of Craigslist which definitely helped. The fact that there was not a straight board in the bunch didn't bother me much as I am not even trying to build it square, plumb nor level! One thing that has been a ton of work is that every board is painted before assembly. There is not a single square inch of raw wood anywhere in the coop so far!

The "floor boards" of the coop are left over fence boards. I figure that fences last a long time outside in the weather so if I paint them (one coat on the bottom, the tops will get at least three coats) they should last forever. I am still looking for a linoleum remnant to put over them as well for further protection and ease of cleaning. Speaking of ease of cleaning, the floor is sloped and will have a door at each end to hopefully make cleaning a breeze!

I reused the metal security door form our house that was removed during the remodel. since this picture the gap at the top was filled and the top bar was installed. Nothing is getting through it!

In this picture you can really see the wonkiness of the walls. The roof beams might pull them a little closer to square but again, it doesn't really matter!

The entire structure will be getting a couple coats of quality exterior paint once the roof beams are on, then coop will be getting enclosed with lots of ventilation up high. Finally, the roof will go on, followed by a whole lot of 1/2" hardware cloth!

Ghetto? I am not sure if I am I being complemented or insulted!

I could not think of a better, more secure, door than this, plus it was sitting in my back yard. I see them pretty often on Craigslist for free as well fyi.

no, i didn't think about making one till it was half built, since they wouldn't get the whole idea I figured I would just post lots of pictures of the end product.
