Husband gets up before I do so he lets the girls out in the morning for their hour of free-ranging before I go to work. While I was in the shower he came in dancing and singing, "Guess what I saw, guess what I saw!"

I immediately said, "an EGG!" He was so sweet, he left it in the nest box for me to go see myself.

So here it is, my first perfect little brown egg. I'm sure its from Gertie, my Jersey Giant/Silver Wyancotte cross. They are just shy of 20 weeks old:

Here it is next to an egg from the farmer's market for size comparison:

My first egg came from my Gertie too. She's a RIR. She took one day off after laying her first and then she laid 6 in a row, then one day off and another 6.

Enjoy the journey (and the egg!), it's a blast [IMG]

Here I am PATIENTLY waiting too.... my girls will be 20 weeks on Christmas.

My favorite Christmas song as of late:

All I want for Christmas is a fresh laid egg,
    A fresh laid egg
    A fresh laid egg.
Gee, if I could only get a fresh laid egg,
Then I could make a Christmas Omelette!

Lucky you. I have 14 BO and they are 21 1/2 wks old and no eggs yet. I told them this is no soup kitchen, so hopefully they will start giving me some good breakfast soon. [IMG]

I dream about eggs almost every night now. My Jerseys are 29 weeks old now and haven't gotten one. I wonder if I am going to get eggs that dark brown color. ..or at all really.[IMG]
