I had read so many posts about fart eggs, I was beginning to think I would never see one in real life

I wish my chicken would lay a 'fart egg'!!! We haven't even had a real one yet:hit

I'd totally do that too! Last time I had an egg that i wanted to keep, I just stuck it in the freezer.

Really? And it didn't explode in the freezer? I have bad freezer karma. Things are always exploding in mine. I didn't leave enough room on the jar of spaghetti sauce last time and ACK. What a mess.

No, it stayed fine.

Hi, I'm a newbie on BYC although I've had chickens for 20 years. I had to sign up & join when I found the references to "fart eggs". I've got a young pullet and that is all she's been laying so far. I've got about a dozen so far! I've never, ever had any before & didn't know what they were. Glad to finally have a term for them. They are all whites only. How long will it be before this pullet starts laying normal eggs? She hatched July 4th & was one out of the first 2 eggs I ever had a hen set on & hatch. See what an inspiration BYC is!

Welcome to BYC! I have had chickens on and off since I was a kid and I had never even heard of fart eggs until I joined BYC. I've only ever gotten one, wish I knew which chicken it came from. Strange about your pullet, never heard of one laying that many. No telling what's going on with her since she's laying so many of them, maybe she just needs to get warmed up?

July 4th 2011? If so mine hatched on that day too, but they aren't laying eggs yet but there are always circles in the straw we lay down in the boxes....

I pullet laying the fart eggs is an EE/Delaware cross. At first I didn't know if it had something to do with her being a mongrel or not. Now she hasn't layed anything for about 3 days. Hopefully she's getting ready for the real deal. This is off topic but I put a light in the coop so the hens would keep laying but it doesn't seem to be working. My coop is 12x20 & the light is 40w. How much light do they need?
