1/24/13 (gonna try to keep a dated running log on this thread)... been single digits the past few mornings, 2 point 9 degrees this morning -- i know it's the norm for some of you, but it really just sucks when you're not used to it -- especially when you were spoiled with a fairly mild winter preceeding it ... anyway..........

....i didn't check for eggs with a flashlight last night (that got old real quick in these temps) and found my first frozen and cracked egg this morning --- the hen laid it close to one of the brooder lights instead of one of their usual nesting spots -- almost wonder if she knew??

1/25
-- 5 from the 2nd batch looking good

-- all 4 from the 3rd batch are fertile

-- set another 4 this afternoon --- although the shells didn't crack, they may have froze ---- had a lot of condensation on the first 2 after i brought them in--

... one had a hole pecked that didn't penetrate the membrane, so i used a gel glue to seal it (it's worked for me with silkie eggs)...

Wow pretty cool. Looks like you've been busy ahead of schedule. Good luck.
thanks!

--unexpected, but needless to say i'm happy about it!!

--- i know some of your boys are more than ready -- they were pretty busy here

1/30 --- 9 older eggs are growing nicely ... out of the last 4, only have one definitely growing (the one with the glued hole

) -- the others were probably fertile, but froze --- have another 6, but i'm gonna wait till tomorrow morning to set with any others that may be layed by morning... (the oldest two are likely to be NG due to the cold) ....

.... this time, i'm going back to what seemed to work better for me two seasons ago -- that being higher humidity for the last week and not keeping ANY upright thru incubation (it was yoda who reinforced that for me) had too many chicks make it to pipping, but couldn't get out -- after neggcropsying 'em, it seemed like the umbilical cord was wrapped around their legs and as the yolk was being absorbed, it just pulled the legs tighter where they couldn't've turned inside the egg if they wanted to...
